Cricket in India has been often compared to religion, uniting people across boundaries. And Uttar Pradesh, with more than 200 million people, cannot hold its excitement when two of the IPL matches were decided to be played in home state, at Kanpur.

19th May, 2016, Uttar Pradesh will witness cricket madness, live. Gujarat Lions will play against Kolkata Night Riders in Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. This will mark the first match in the history of Indian Premier League to be played in Uttar Pradesh. The second IPL match in the state will be between Gujarat Lions and Mumbai Indians on the 21st May, 2016. The entire stadium which has a capacity of 33,000 was completely sold out in two days; this will give you an idea about the enthusiasm and zeal of the people.

The tickets were sold online and offline in Lucknow and Kanpur for these historical matches which will decide the fate of Gujarat Lions, Kolkata Night Riders, and Mumbai Indians. A lot of people are looking forward to the match in Uttar Pradesh in lieu of the glamour and media attention that will come with the IPL. At present, Green Park in Kanpur is the only international cricket stadium, but not for long. Thanks to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, there is one coming up in the state capital, Lucknow. This 67 acre International Cricket Stadium will be one of the best in the country with a capacity of 50,000 people.

One interesting fact is Green Park in Kanpur is considered to be Gujarat Lions’ second home ground after Rajkot. To ensure the smooth execution of IPL matches, the Uttar Pradesh government has made special arrangements for traffic to Kanpur from nearby areas. This was needed because after the matches, there are going to be more than 33,000 enthusiastic people on the roads, way after midnight. Extraordinary security measures have been taken for the citizens and the players by combined efforts of the UP Police force. There are CCTVs inside and outside the arena along with active spider cams.

These matches are also extremely crucial for the players because the three teams are tied at the third position with 14 points each. Hence, these matches will decide the destiny of these teams in IPL 2016. Suresh Raina who is the captain for Gujurat Lions is familiar with the pitch of Green Park, which will definitely give them an edge over others. But along with him Pravin Kumar, Amit Mishra, Akshdeep, Eklavya Dwivedi, and Umang Sharma have also played here. These players will help in swaying the outcome of the matches.

For the first time ever, an international cricket stadium has made provisions for handicapped and specially-abled people. To broadcast the match on the television, 32 cameras are being fixed at important spots. Some of the cricketers that people are excited to see are Ravindra Jadeja, Finch, Dwayne Smith, Gautam Gambhir, Rohit Sharma and Simmons amongst others. Also, the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, might be attending the matches!

But for all this and more, we must thank the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to make this happen. He has relentlessly tried to give a makeover to Uttar Pradesh and break the prejudices people have against the state. He has released special orders to ensure the smooth functioning of the matches. Nothing must be amiss and for the same many ACMs will be on duty outside the match, to avoid any discomfort to the viewers.

Social Samajwadi is as excited about the IPL matches in Uttar Pradesh as the other 200 million people!
