Lucknow University is one of the most prestigious study centres in Uttar Pradesh and is also one of the oldest government-owned institutions of Indian higher education. Institutes like KGMU, Aligarh Muslim University etc. in Uttar Pradesh are undergoing a makeover, it is now this University’s turn to shine. Thanks to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the education facilities in the state are being upgraded to ensure an overall development of the students. Let us see the new additions to this almost 100-year-old university which will certainly help the young minds to develop better and make us proud.
Lucknow University (LU) is all set to have its first swimming pool and a student activity centre (SAC) where counselling sessions for placements and admissions would be held. The SAC will also have an ATM, a cyber café, and a cafeteria. The space will facilitate indoor games, debates, quizzes, and other student-centric activities. Seeking a makeover, LU had sent a proposal to the state government for expansion of the academic block for arts faculty, administrative block, and a 1,000-seat auditorium in its new campus.
The government has approved the projects amounting to Rs. 98 crore. The swimming pool and the SAC are estimated to cost Rs. 23 crore and Rs. 16 crore respectively. The government has also sanctioned Rs. 13 crore for setting up an academic block to meet the shortage of classrooms in the existing arts faculty in the quadrangle building. The block would provide rooms for faculty and research scholars. The auditorium would be used for academic and research conferences, industry interaction, and special lectures. Cultural activities too would be held in the auditorium.
“The need for such a place was felt, as the existing Malviya hall in the main campus failed to accommodate all students, staff, participants, and guests. With the university growing, in terms of the number of courses and enrolments, a bigger auditorium was necessary,” said a University Official. The university will also expand its administrative building to accommodate more officers and functionaries. The design proposal for the administrative block has been done in a pentagon shape and it would be a place for administrative meetings, executive council, academic council, and interaction with visiting delegates. The block would also provide space for adequate storage of records.
University spokesperson Professor N.K. Pandey said, “This will for the first time ever that the university will have a state-of-the-art swimming pool. Facilities like SAC will help university retain students.”
With these makeovers coming up, Lucknow University is going to offer a whole new world of opportunities to the students. Akhilesh Yadav’s vision for betterment for education and educational facilities has not only opened new avenues for world-class ‘shiksha’ in the state but has also filled the youth with new hopes and dreams.
