A connoisseur of all things good, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav brings nothing but the best for the state. His recent visit to Grasse, the perfume capital of France got him thinking how he can improve the perfume capital of UP, Kannauj. He came up with an innovative mutual corporation agreement between the two towns of Kannauj and Grasse.

Akhilesh Yadav, visited the perfumery n Grasse and said, “the two perfume districts, with their differences in technological expertise and processes to make perfumes, could come together well to potentially become World leaders in the production of perfumes.” The People’s CM also announced that every year 10-15 students will be sent to France to learn the expertise of the profession so that they can come back and implement them in the state.

Such collaboration will not only boost floriculture in Uttar Pradesh but also benefit the people involved in the trade. The state government also plans to set up a 400-acre special ‘Itr’ manufacturing zone in Kannauj for modern distillation and extraction units, an area that will also be fitted with dedicated export manufacturing units from where perfume manufacturers in France can source ingredients and fragrances according to their own standards. The twin city pact will also entail a branding exercise for the perfumes – edible scents used for cooking, as well as those applied orally. An agreement for sourcing of ingredients, plant extracts, and perfumes from Kannauj will also be signed with the Mayor of Grasse. There will also be an International Perfume Museum which will be situated in the ‘Itr Park’, Kannauj.
