Aradhana (name changed on request) a resident of Barola Village, Noida had no strength or patience left when her wedding was called off multiple times. She was 30 years old and her marriage had been stalled 5 times, because her family could not afford a ceremony. In her plea to make ends meet, she sought financial help from the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. But when Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh heard of this woman’s plight, he immediately gave her a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.

The district magistrate of Noida was directed by Akhilesh Yadav to complete all the formalities as quickly as possible and ensure that the girl’s family receives the money and uses it well. Overjoyed Aradhana thanked the Digital CM for this magnanimous gesture, “I did not realise the power of the media and initially was hesitant to share my problems and what I had written to the PM. But when I was informed about the support from the UP CM after getting to know about my financial status, I am very grateful.” With the money, Aradhana also plans to start her own tiffin service which she could not do earlier, due to lack of funds.

In the past too, Akhilesh Yadav has made sure that weddings are not cancelled for this reason. He organizes yearly mass marriages in the state for financially weak families, making him a People’s CM.
