April 2015 saw the worst natural disaster in Nepal. Gorkha Earthquake which measured 7.8 on the scale killed over 8,000 people and injured more than 21,000. There was no food to eat, no clean water to drink and no families to go back to. Help poured in from everywhere, but Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh did, what no one else could do.
To begin with, he arranged more than 100 buses to move 6000 people to safety. Akhilesh Yadav instructed his point man to lead a team of 50 volunteers to ensure that the relief material from the
state reaches the people in need. They camped on site, till the entire process was not complete. “We’ve come here upon instructions from the CM (Akhilesh Yadav), who has asked us to ensure that the relief material sent from the state is properly distributed among the needy and to also assist the affected in whatever way we can,” said the team lead.
Akhilesh Yadav also requested his party leaders to adopt villages and children as part of rebuilding exercise in Nepal. Apart from this, he also provided financial help of Rs. 5 Lakh to the kin of those killed in the earthquake, Rs 50,000 to those who were grievously injured and Rs. 20,000 to those with minor injuries in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
We are extremely proud of this magnanimous gesture from the People’s CM.
