Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and a sports lover hves always tried to promote and motivate sports person in the state. From getting the international infrastructure to the state to ensuring representation from the rural population, he has done his bit; but for him, even that is not enough.
Akhilesh Yadav, in order to groom the right talent from a young age, has ear marked Rs. 96 crore for development of infrastructure and training. This initiative is quite unique as no other state has such provisions which caters to students from formative years. The CM announced the allocation in supplementary budget 2016 which was set in place right after Rio Olympics.
Rahul Bhatnagar, principal secretary said, “UP has taken a lead in the country by deciding to fund sports infrastructure at the grass roots level and recruiting coaches in primary schools. The chief minister has also increased the diet grants of hostellers and opened new hostels for the budding sports persons.” Under this initiative, the Akhilesh Government will appoint trained sports teacher in government schools up to the 8th standard. Apart from this, every school will get annual allocation to develop and maintain sports infrastructure in the campus.
The sports coaches will be specially trained at National Institutes of Sports (NIS), Patiala or Kolkata in various disciplines. No state has such a funding system for primary schools to develop sports, nor has any other state recruited sports teachers at such a large scale.
Social Samajwadi wants UP to surpass other states in sports development just the way it has on infrastructure front, under Akhilesh Yadav.
