Following up on his visit to France last year, Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh laid down the founding stone of India’s first ever International Perfume Museum and Aroma Park, in Kannauj. These initiatives will be a major boost for the world famous fragrance industry in Uttar Pradesh.
“The project would provide a world-class platform to the ittar (perfume) manufacturers to showcase their age-old skills and to upgrade their skills according to the changing time. Once the project is completed it would rejuvenate the old glory of Kannauj as a fragrance hub besides increasing the export of locally made perfumes” said Mahesh Kumar Gupta, the Principal Secretary for Infrastructure and Industrial Development.
Kannauj has been a traditional manufacturer of natural perfumes or ittar, which is prepared by flowers and natural oil extracts. The essence then finds multiple applications in ayurvedic medicines, gulkand etc. As per direction from Akhilesh Yadav, the project will include a special perfume manufacturing zone with modern distillation and extraction units. The International Perfume Museum will house a variety of fragrances and put Kannauj on a larger global market along with international brands. Whereas, the Perfume Park aims at restoring the glory of Kannauj, as an international fragrance hub.
Along with this project, the People’s CM also announced 150 development schemes worth Rs. 1,165 crore in Kannauj and laid the foundation stone for 106 . He also said, “Perfume industry of the district will get a new identity in the world after the start of the museum and park.” The ceremony also say distribution of laptops as part of Kanya Vidya Dhan, Tangas, and E-Rickshaws.
