The fifth Annual Metro Rail Summit, 2016 awarded Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) the ‘Best Metro for Excellence in Innovative Designs’. The summit was organised in New Delhi and was attended by various other metro rail companies, which included Jaipur Metro, Mumbai Metro, along with consultants and manufacturers associated with metro projects across the country. Lucknow Metro has been the pilot project of Samajwadi Party after Akhilesh Yadav got elected as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and its construction was started in 2014.

Merto Rail India Summit is India’s premier forum to address issues related to the further development of Metro Rail in India. The event features active participation of government officials, decision makers, planners, technology experts as well as project leaders to address specific challenges across key aspects like finance, planning, technology, mobility, signalling and control as well as operations, safety and maintenance. They also pointed out that once Varanasi and Kanpur Metro will start running, Uttar Pradesh will be the only state with 4 metro rails.

Lucknow Metro has already been appreciated for its fast pace construction on about 8.5 km stretch of priority section from Transport Nagar to Charbagh. LMRC aims to run its first metro-rail In Lucknow before December 2016. Officials claim that the project is being completed in a record time ever because of constant vigil by Akhilesh Yadav. State government has set the deadline to complete metro construction on priority by December 2017. The remaining stretch of North-South corridor will be constructed till 2019.
