Uttar Pradesh is endowed with a varied spectrum of tourism offerings. These range from unique cultural and religious hotspots like Varanasi, Braj, Awadh to one of the wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. But just showcasing the hubs is not enough, hence Akhilesh Yadav initiated the Taj Mahal Beautification Project. Like the name suggests, officials were required to come up with solutions to reduce the effect of pollution on the marble mausoleum.

The process is almost complete now and the hard work of the young CM has paid off. The promise made by Akhilesh Yadav to restore history and culture of the world’s wonder has been fulfilled and on 26th November, 2016 he inaugurated the redeveloped Taj Ganj. This project was one of the core tourism enhancement initiative taken up by Akhilesh Government, amongst others. It consisted of making stone pavements around the building, installing places to sit and rest, newer interactive methods of storytelling, streetscape, and ensuring other basic utilities for visitors like parking, washrooms, bathrooms, etc.
