A professor, an author, an inspirational aerospace scientist, a visionary president of India; these are just a few of the feats of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam which makes us remember him fondly. It’s been a year since the country bid an emotional farewell to a great man. Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh hailed him as a ‘True Indian’ who was always eager to help the state. In 2015, the two dignitaries exchanged letters, presentations, and ideas for the upliftment of Uttar Pradesh. The UPCM expressed his grief by saying, “Dr. Kalam has left us with a vision for Uttar Pradesh’s development.”
To commemorate the first death anniversary, Akhilesh Government organized an International Youth Conclave with the vision of creating a liveable planet Earth. The UPCM shared a few of the missions which he had taken up with Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for the state. They had worked on making potable water available for everyone, solar energy to produce electricity, tree plantations, and how to provide services digitally to the people. If we look at the present scenario, we can see that Akhilesh Yadav has lived up to the expectations of the People’s President by fulfilling these for the state and the man himself.
In this two-day youth conclave, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, Arunachalam Murugananth, Dimple Yadav, Javagal Srinath, SY Qureshi, Ravish Kumar were present along with other well-known peace leaders. Diya Mirza, who has worked relentlessly for children welfare was felicitated and appreciated by Akhilesh Yadav at the event. This conference was held at APJ Abdul Kalam University in Lucknow; which was renamed after the Missile Man post his departure.
The university plans on adopting a village, organize blood donation drives, plantation drives on college campuses and involve tagging of trees and monitoring their growth along with cleanliness drives in nearby areas. At the conclave, Governor Ram Naik unveiled a mobile app which will provide free short-term learning courses on villages, social and national development, scientific thought and Indian Constitution. This app will try to continue fulfilling Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s dreams even after he is gone.
Akhilesh Yadav inspired the youth with his speech during the conclave. He said, “We all need to work together on sustainable and exclusive development and growth. To ensure this, the youth of the state must dream big and try to achieve them. Education is very important for any country to grow. That is why the state government is working so hard to improve it.” After the event, the UPCM also decided to give funds for child protection and work in tandem with Kailash Satyarthi for the same; along with releasing a book by Srijan Pal Singh on Dr. Kalam’s inspirational life; ‘What Can I Give’.
Social Samajwadi would like to salute Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for an exceptional life and Akhiesh Yadav for taking his work forward.
