A 65-year-old woman got teary eyed when she stepped off a train at the Charbagh Railway Station, Lucknow. These were tears of joy as she was returning after fulfilling her lifelong dream. She was returning from a pilgrimage from Shirdi and Singnapur and this was the special Uttar Pradesh government run train which was carrying passengers from Samajwadi Shravan Yatra. There was a mini carnival at the Charbagh Station to welcome the travellers complete with pomp and show.

This woman had wanted to visit Shirdi for a very long time but could not do so due to her family and their responsibilities. She was hoping that one day her son would take her there but when he left with his wife without taking her along, all seemed lost. It was then, that her neighbour enrolled her in the Samajwadi Shravan Yatra program.

This program has been initiated by Akhilesh Yadav, the young chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and it enables people o fulfil their wish to travel to pilgrimage places all over the country. There are regular trains which are complete with VIP treatment for the aged. They are given a place to stay, food to eat, and taken to famous sightseeing sites apart from visiting the temples and other religious spots.

When asked about her trip, the visibly touched woman said, “I have never travelled with so many luxuries and comforts before. For the first time, I got such excellent food. Akhilesh Yadav has done more for me than my son. He is God sent for me and is no less than Shravan Kumar for me.”

The special train had 1080 passengers and left on the 26th April, 2016. The next one is scheduled for Dwarikapuri and will leave on the 23rd of May, 2016. With such initiatives Akhilesh Yadav has truly fulfilled the dreams of many.
