After a record construction time of just 23 months, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway is all set to open on December 23, 2016. The country’s longest greenfield expressway is Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s dream project. It has been in the news for a while now due to its extravagant inauguration, which saw fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) touch down and take off again.

The decision to open the expressway on December 23 for public was taken at a meeting presided over by Akhilesh Yadav. The Young CM has directed the officials to ensure police presence at all times to deter commuters from breaching the maximum speed limit. The 302-km long six-lane greenfield expressway is special on multiple fronts. For starters, it will reduce the travel time between Lucknow and Agra to almost half. Earlier one would take 7 hours but now, the distance can be covered in just 3.5 hours. Time taken from state capital to Delhi has also been considerably reduced to 5-6 hours. This will mean quicker transportation, hence increased import and export while saving fuel.image-345_social-samajwadi

The Agra-Lucknow Expressway will have automatic traffic management systems aimed at reducing road accidents and helping travellers even during winter fog. The six-laned road is expandable to 8 along with multiple bridges and underpasses which have been made to avoid traffic congestion and bottlenecks. There is a bridge across the river Ganga connecting the expressway to Kanpur and Unnao. It includes 4 rail over bridges, 13 major bridges, 57 minor bridges, 74 vehicular underpasses, 148 pedestrian underpasses, and 9 flyovers!

The Arga-Lucknow expressway covers 10 districts, 236 villages and 3500 hectares of land. It connects Agra and Lucknow via Shikohabad, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Kannauj, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao and Hardoi. The expressway passes through 4 National Highways, 2 state highways, and 5 rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, Isan, Sai, and Kalyani). The expressway will start at the village of Etmadpur Madra near Agra and will end at the village of Sarosa Bharosa near Mohan Road, Lucknow connection 5 million people.

Agra-Lucknow Expressway will definitely boost tourism, business, and job opportunities in Uttar Pradesh. Social Samajwadi would like to thank Akhilesh Yadav for such holistic development.
