The state saw Uttar Pradesh Travel Mart for the first time in 2015, thanks to the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. In an attempt to boost tourism potential in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has tied up with FICCI to organize UPTM every year. This is a three day event which sees participation of various business firms involved in the tourism industry and tour operators, both inbound and outbound. In 2015, it was inaugurated with La Martiniere College as the backdrop and this year at one of the Seven Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal in Agra.


Akhilesh Yadav came up with this initiative to reiterate the government’s focus on tourism industry of Uttar Pradesh, which holds unlimited potential. At the event, the tour operators get a chance to put up stalls, exchange ideas, and hold simulating and introductory tours of various destinations of tourist interest along with marketing themselves. The day usually ends with energetic folk performances presented by the locals.

The government under Akhilesh Yadav is focusing on finding the potential of rural, cultural, spiritual, eco-tourism, and motor sports tourism. Separate funds have been ear marked for maintenance of roads in such places. The last two years witnessed major contribution and attendance from foreign countries which have tourists coming to Uttar Pradesh. At the inauguration, the young CM said, “The initiative was a heartening one as this would highlight the hitherto unknown aspects of the tourism potential of Uttar Pradesh.
