“This was my favourite game and as a child have played on the La Martiniere ground, Dilkusha, and Cantonment,” the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav at the football match organized by the Tatva Foundation. Tatva is an NGO which works towards the upliftment of the weaker sections of the society and works on ground level to make ends meet for financially handicapped people.
The chief minister has taken many steps to promote sports in the state. From initiating the construction of multiple state-of-the-art stadiums to promoting rural sports and from increasing pension for sportspersons to coming up with job quotas for them. So, when Tatva requested him to join for a football match, he agreed immediately. Akhilesh Yadav got his team in place for a seven-a-side football match with the underprivileged children.
Clad in black jersey, the sports-loving chief minister not only led his team to victory but also won laurels for his deft skills. Akhilesh Yadav’s gesture to honour by playing with the winners of 13th Rajiv Gandhi National Slum Soccer Championship in Nagpur touched hearts. The players were left spell bound, amidst all the excitement, they said “This is simply unimaginable. We played football match with the chief minister.”
At the end of some serious game, he felicitated the champions by giving them Rs. 1 lakh each and donating Rs. 5 lakh to the NGO on behalf of the state government. For that day he dropped his protocol as the chief minister and emerged as the magnanimous human being, which he is!
