Uttar Pradesh government has been distributing free laptops to meritorious students who clear high school and intermediate examinations from the state. UP Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav, has distributed more than 16 lakh laptops since 2012. The CM initiated this to encourage students to go in for higher studies and be technically at par with the rest of the world.
Taking lieu from this move and seeing its positive effects in the last 4 years, the Uttar Pradesh Police Department has decided to award the wards of non-gazetted policemen who excel in high school and intermediate examinations. To begin with, the department will provide laptops to 50 students in each of the two categories. This decision was taken at the meeting of UP Police education committee.
Director General of Police Javeed Ahmad said, “The idea is to help students move closer to the technological advancements in place. Amongst the students selected, there would be 15 girls also. It is an attempt to promote education in Uttar Pradesh.” The laptops will be purchased from the department’s fund and if all goes well, maybe they can be included in the state budget.
On 2nd December, the Chief Minister distributed laptops to enthusiastic students in Lucknow. He said, “We have consistently worked to curb the digital divide that exists today. Free distribution of laptops will promote digital literacy. Seeing the international technological development, we have made this a priority.” Akhilesh Yadav has really set an example for everyone to follow. Many states have incorporated this scheme and are distributing laptops to encourage students for higher studies.
Social Samajwadi is looking forward to more initiatives on this front which will empower Uttar Pradesh, like never before.
