Uttar Pradesh can now boast of multiple state-of-the-art facilities for sport lovers in the state. From setting up international cricket and football stadiums to signing MoUs with international coaches to train the youth of the state, Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has ensured that the state becomes a preferred destination for sports as well. Very recently, the state bagged an honour of hosting one of the most prestigious hockey events of the world. Yes, Lucknow will be hosting FIH Junior Men’s Hockey World Cup 2016.
India has a huge legacy which connects it closely to the sport of hockey hence, it came as little surprise to the world when it was zeroed in for hosting the World Cup. To finalize the venue, Hockey India President Narendra Batra met the sports enthusiast, Akhilesh Yadav who accepted the national federation’s invitation to host the tournament from 8th to 18th Decemeber.
Uttar Pradesh has been the home for many legendary hockey players, like Dhyanchand and KD Singh Babu amongst others. The state will once again see 16 international teams battling it out on the field for the prestigious award. The countries that will participate in the Junior World Cup include hosts India, Argentina, Autralia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, England, Pakistan, Germany, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Africa and Spain. The competition, held every four years, would be aired live in 100 countries of the world and will definitely bring laurels to Uttar Pradesh.
