King George’s Medical University, is a medical school located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh which came into being in 1911. The operating hospital is one of the renowned ones in the country and sees patients from far and wide. On 10th April, 2016, Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh announced almost Rs. 600 crore worth of additional services for the general public. He laid the foundation of 32 new facilities which will make the institute technically sound.

The new provisions will include new linear machines, artificial lung systems apart from other hi-tech equipment. The young CM also inaugurated 9 new departments of Nephrology, Gastrology, Nuclear Medicine, Transfusion Medicine, Haematology, etc. With the advent of these services, KGMU will be able to treat patients with severe illnesses. The Nuclear Medicine department and Electron Microscope Lab are much anticipated as they will enable thorough research.

100 extra beds are welcomed by the authorities and common people alike along with increased MBBS seats. Akhilesh Yadav mentioned that “We are dedicated to the growth of medical education in UP. MBBS seats have been increased from 1140 to 1750 and we are hoping to reach our target of 3000 MBBS seats in the state, very soon.”

But what appealed to the masses the most was when the People’s CM announced that “Now the rich and the poor will be treated alike.”
