Lucknow Metro, UPCM Akhilesh Yadav’s dream project seems to be running on time and can be seen nearing completion. The first four train coaches have been delivered to the state capital and if all goes well, trial run will start from December 1, 2016. Started in 2012, this could be the fastest metro to see the tracks!

The coaches have been inspected by Yasir Shah, State Minister in the presence of Chief Advisor to CM Alok Ranjan, Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar, and Principal Secretary Sadakant at the manufacturing unit of M/s Alstom Transport India Ltd near Chennai. This quick work has been possible only because of the proactive LMRC team and their sincere efforts.

“It is only because of the MD’s sustained efforts that Lucknow Metro’s rolling stock (metro train) is being dispatched within the contracted period of 65 weeks, which is one of shortest known periods for supply of train world over,” said an LMRC official. For the last six months, Keshav, LMRC MD had been visiting the manufacturing facility on strict orders from Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to complete the work before the end of the year.

The salient design safety features of the Metro trains include efficient design, adequate risk management, redundancy in the system, use of fire retardant material, fire smoke detection and protection, safe passenger evacuation in an emergency and the anti-climbing features of buffers. The passenger safety features include emergency communication facilities including talk back facility for passenger for talking to train driver directly, CCTV images inside trains to be displayed to train driver as well as the centralized security control room.

The first metro train is likely to open for public use on March 26,2017 after at least three months of rigorous trial and approval by the Director General Railways safety. In the first phase, the metro will run between Airport and Charbagh stations, with around nine kilometers in the elevated route. Each car will be fitted with air conditioning and a passenger information system for a high level of passenger comfort. Alstom will also provide Urbalis, its communication-based Train Control solution, which controls the movement of the trains, enabling them to run at higher frequencies and speeds in total safety.

Very soon, we will be able to see progress in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad Metro projects.
