Football Lovers, behold!

By 2018, Lucknow is to have a state-of-art football stadium at par with famous fields like Arsenal Football Stadium in Gothenburg, Real Madrid or Lords and the London Football stadium. Akhilesh Yadav, an avid sports enthusiast, has laid the foundation stone for Lucknow Football Field next to the International Cricket Stadium on Sitapur Road.

The proposed football stadium is to be complete with floodlights, a synthetic turf of international standard, and capacity of more than 20,000 and is estimated to cost a whooping Rs. 250 crore. Once functional, it will be able to sustain national and international level matches.

There’s a really interesting story behind this project which makes it unique. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh government along with the team of LDA officials comprising of chief engineer and superintending engineers actually visited famous football stadiums in Spain, Sweden, and England to do a thorough study. Only after they were well equipped with information, as per the young CM’s instruction, they submitted a report with recommendations for this particular stadium.

The recommended stadium is to have infrastructural facilities comparable to Arsenal and Tele 2 Arena. Facilities like a 3-tier arena for the audience, flood lights, corporate boxes along with VIP gallery are part of the plans. There will also be open community space with dustbins to keep the area green and clean.
