Kanya Vidya Dhan was started by Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2004 and then resumed by Akhilesh Yadav when he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2012. It is aimed at promoting higher education among girl students by providing them financial aid of Rs. 30,000. This year UPCM will be felicitating 89,100 young girls at an official function who have passed their intermediate examinations with distinction marks in 2015-16. But here’s what he is doing to make it special for each and every one of them.

The cheques will be distributed by Akhilesh Yadav personally on the 16th and 17th August to beneficiaries in Lucknow, as a gift for Raksha Bandhan which is falling on the 18th. ‘Akhilesh Bhaiya’, how he is fondly referred to, will be playing big brother to each one of these young girls; staying true to his name. The CM has sanctioned Rs. 267.30 crore for this round of Kanya Vidya Dhan and directed the officials to host similar events across all districts to facilitate these bright students.

Such an act will definitely motivate them to perform better and pursue higher education. Akhilesh Yadav has always been a strong ambassador of educating the youth. He has distributed more than 15 lakh laptops in the last few years to youngsters of the state to ensure they get the right opportunities to fulfil their dreams.

At the moment, Kanya Vidya Dhan is applicable to meritorious students who pass their intermediate examinations from the secondary education boards, CBSE, ISCE, UP Madarsa Board, and the UP Sanskrit Board.

Social Samajwadi is truly touched by the CM’s gesture.
