In lieu of the upcoming 2017 Vidhan Sabha Elections, Uttar Pradesh can be seen abuzz with political rallies and election manifestos. Contesting parties are organizing maha sabhas, door-to-door campaigns, and party booths to advertise the work done or what they will do if elected to power. With a few months to go for the assembly elections, political leaders have taken their first step towards launching organised campaigns both online and offline. In short, the entire state is gearing up for India’s most populous state’s elections and Uttar Pradesh 2017 assembly polls are going to be an interesting fight for the prestigious post of state CM.
On September 14, Akhilesh Yadav, the current Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh announced Samajwadi Vikas Rath Yatra – ‘Vikas se Vijay ki ore’ through his Twitter handle with a picture of him inside the official campaign bus. Originally, this was supposed to commence on the 3rd of October, but due to unforeseen circumstances got postponed. He said, “The date of yatra will be decided. Time has changed, now I will see from which ‘disha’ (direction) and time it should start.”
But today again, the state can be seen in a frenzy when Akhilesh Yadav, people’s favourite CM candidate, announced the date of the Samajwadi Vikas Rath Yatra in a letter to party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. This rally will officially kick start the election campaign of Uttar Pradesh’s largest political party from the 3rd of November. In the letter, the UPCM wrote that the agenda for the rally will be to promote and brand the party for the upcoming elections.
On the 5th November, Samajwadi Party is also hosting Rajat Jayanti, an event to mark 25 years of the party, since its inception. Which means, it is a good time to initiate the campaign as Samajwadis from all across the country will be assembling in the state to show their support.
In the polls conducted by major media houses in the last few months, Akhilesh Yadav has emerged as a clear winner. Some of the major factors that can be attributed to UPCM’s success include the award-winning Skill Development Mission, the first of its kind Laptop Distribution Scheme and several other developments in the field of Infrastructure, Education, Employment, Sports, and Health. It has been revealed that the general opinion of the residents is that there has been an all-round development in Uttar Pradesh for the first time and that they are seeing the state transform into a much stronger economy under the development mascot, Akhilesh.
