12th May, 2015 saw yet another remarkable initiative by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as he launched the Water ATM by the name of Samajwadi Shudha Payjal Yojna at various bus stations strewn across the state. The facility was installed at Charbagh bus station in Lucknow along with 100 other bus stations of the state.
Thanks to Samajwadi Shudha Payjal Yojna, the passengers can now get cold potable water at Rs. 2/litre and regular water for Re. 1/litre to revive and quench their thirsts. During the launch, the People’s CM said “making potable water available at such reasonable price to bus passengers was typical of the socialist thinking of the Samajwadi Party government. While the SP government had taken many pro-people initiatives, the government had not been able to market their work well enough, an area they have now begun to work on.”
The Water ATMs will soon be installed in various villages as part of I-Sparsh scheme along with solar panels to make them energy efficient. Each machine costs Rs. 29 lakh and caters to around 1,000 families. Sonkh in Mathura already has a Water ATM which gives free water to children and the withdrawal is done by a prepaid card.
With the deadly heat wave conditions that are likely to prevail over several states of India, Samajwadi Shudha Payjal Yojna by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav come as a huge relief.
