Manzil Saini became the first woman Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in 2016. Manzil is a 2005 batch IPS Officer and was expecting her first child when she cracked the civil services examinations to become the country’s first woman IPS officer. Nothing could stop her from achieving her goals.
She had her earlier posting in Etawah where she was in the news for coming down hard on the unauthorized use of party flags in four wheelers. Manzil proved to be an excellent athlete during her training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police IPS Academy in Hyderabad. In 2008, soon after her posting as SP Moradabad, she busted a multi-million inter-state kidney racket.
On 31st July 2016, she did something extremely brave which restored our faith in Uttar Pradesh police. A lot of eve teasing cases were being reported in a specific area of the city. Boisterous boys could be seen whizzing around in bikes making the girls feel uncomfortable. SSP Saini along with a colleague Aradhana Singh, went undercover as regular women, leaving behind their uniforms, for their daily patrolling.
They could have been easily mistaken as college going young women on two wheeler. The two brave police officers went on to do this exercise till 1.30 am around the city. Steps like these from UP Police will definitely improve the law and order of the state and make the women feel safe and empowered.
Social Samajwadi would like to salute the brave SSP for her determination and commitment.
