Etah in Uttar Pradesh has been in the news for the last one week and for all the wrong reasons! Almost 24 people lost their lives after consuming spurious liqiour. Akhilesh Yadav, the young CM of the state was infuriated by this news because in the past he has often advised people to drink responsibly and had directed the police officials to ensure that no illegal liquor stores are operational.
Angry at the development, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday suspended the SDM, district excise officer, circle officer and the station house officer of the area along with 11 other officials from excise department for dereliction of duty. The accused were also arrested immediately on non-bailable warrant.
“Taking serious note of the incident, district excise officer, excise inspector and some excise personnel have been suspended,” Principal Secretary (Excise) Kishan Singh Atoria said. He also informed the people that the Chief Minister is deeply grieved and has decided to pay Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in place of Rs. 2 lakh, which was the pre-determined amount.
Akhilesh Yadav has also directed the UP Police to take strict actions against the culprits and to ensure that no such incident takes place in the future.
Social Samajwadi is glad the UPCM took swift action and punished the culprits.
