Although Uttar Pradesh, with the production of 241.939 lacs metric tonne of milk during the year 2013-14 is the largest milk producing state in the country, the average productivity of animals is low in comparison to other states. This is because of scarce availability of high yielding germ plasm animals in the region.
To improve this, Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh launched Kamdhenu Yojna in the state. This has often been referred as his dream project and envisages the establishment of dairy units of 100 high yielding animals obtained from outside the state. Under these schemes interest free loan and subsidy will be given to the entrepreneurs or inter ested farmers. More than 2000 new dairy farms of 100, 50 and 25 cattle will be established under these schemes. Our state is a part of the National Dairy Plan (NDP) of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Animal husbandry department of Uttar Pradesh Government has commenced ‘Kamdhenu’, ‘Mini Kamdhenu’ and ‘Micro Kamdhenu Schemes’ for dairy farming.
Under Kamdhenu Yojna, 250 establishments have been granted and 189 are functional. This will enable 1.5 lakh litres of milk production on a daily basis. Under Mini Kamdhenu 1411 setups have been budgeted for which will ensure 3.6 lakh litres of milk per day. 3rd June 2016 saw the inauguration of the first establishment in Gangapur. And the rest are under Micro Kamdhenu.
A lot of people called the UPCM over-ambitious when he announced his plans for such extensive dairy schemes. But with his dream project coming to life, people are extremely happy and can now enjoy improved life styles. Kamdhenu will not only provide Uttar Pradesh with more employment and increased revenue but will also be able to make its name on the world export map.
Social Samajwadi would like to applaud Akhilesh Yadav for turning his dreams into reality for a better Uttar Pradesh
