Summers might be shunned by people for a lot of reasons but there is one thing that unites the love for this season in entire India. Yes, we are talking about the ‘King of the Fruits’, Mango which is abundantly available in the months of June and July. Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of certain types of mangoes in the world and many have been named after the cities of the state. On one side of the state we have Dasheri from Malihabad and on the other Langra originating from Varanasi. Apart from these, Chausa, Fazli, Lucknowa, Jauhari, and Safeda also call Uttar Pradesh their home. Mangoes are not only tasty, but they also form an important means of livelihood for many.

Keeping this in mind, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav has decided to host a ‘Mango Mahotsav’ in the state capital around the end of June. The officials have been directed to invite mango producers and farmers from other states to be a part of this event. At the festival, the farmers can talk to each other and exchange their knowledge about farming skills and selling techniques.

Very soon the details will be decided and announced by the Chief Secretary, Alok Ranjan. There will also be prize money of Rs. 11,000 for the best mango producer of the season. Apart from this, the Akhilesh Yadav-led state government has also decided to work on the presentation and packing of the mangoes to improve the sale. To do so, the officials will buy the mangoes directly from the farmers, get them packed, and send them to various outlets.

To increase awareness and sale of the fruit, there will be separate festivals organized at hotels and other main areas too. Such great ideas are what make Akhilesh Yadav a People’s CM!
