Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on 16th November inaugurated Gomti Riverfront in Lucknow. This is UP Government’s biggest eco-friendly project and has no parallels in the country. It has been planned in a manner to make it a tourist destination, a leisure spot, and greenery conservation hub. All this will spread prosperity amongst the people and at the same time boost employment. Adding to this unique project, UPCM has added another spectacular feature to Gomti.
To mark the beginning of new year, Akhilesh Yadav will launch an air-conditioned water bus in River Gomti for the public to enjoy a ride. The water bus has been imported from Europe and its trials have already started. It will be a 30-seater covered boat with an AC vent above every passenger seat. There is a provision for special sofa seats in the front for VIP guests too. Irrigation department chief engineer SN Sharma said, “We would open it for public use from January first week. Just like in an airplane, there’s a window for every passenger seat to savour the beauty of the riverfront.”
For the safety of passengers, each of them would be provided with a safety jacket and safety divers would also be there on the boat. The water-bus cost about Rs. 1.4 crore. The irrigation department has also launched a six-seater rescue boat in Gomti to help in case of emergencies and during inspections.
In a month’s time, the department would also launch three pontoon boats in Gomti, each with 10-12 seats. “The fares have still not been decided. As the riverfront’s beautification work progresses, we would be able to finalise boat fares too,” said an official. Meanwhile, the water-bus would traverse the 8.5 km-stretch between Kudiya Ghat and Gandhi Setu. The department would also install jetties (for boat parking) at all important river spots so that people can use it as a conducive transport system too.
At the inauguration of the Gomti Riverfront, Akhilesh Yadav said, “Samajwadi Party government had set an example for balanced development and timely completion of projects. Not only Gomti, we have developed so many other beautiful and leisure spots like the Janeshwar Mishra Park, the Lohia Park, Jai Prakash Narayan International Centre in Lucknow for the people.”
Social Samajwadi is looking forward to take a ride in the air-conditioned water bus which will mark yet another first for UP-ites!
